‘ECHO’ – European Commission
Humanitarian Office
The European Union’s mandate to ECHO
is to provide emergency assistance and relief to victims of natural disasters
and armed conflict outside of the European Union. The aid is intended to go
directly to those in distress, irrespective of race, religion or political
convictions.
I am about to start working for ECHO
at the end of January 2011, as the humanitarian specialist of the
institution in Sudan.

"Hunger, today, is a
weapon. It hits people, whose only fault is to find themselves hostages in
wars, which deprive them of direct access to food. By publicly denouncing
the cynicism of politicians who use hunger as a means of pressure or
extermination, we confront states with their legal responsibilities. In the
field, our teams provide aid to three million children, women and men each
year. By helping these people regain food autonomy, we give them back the
dignity they are due." – Quote from Action Against
Hunger’s information booklet.
